Dentures & Partials

Dentures can be a great alternative to replace missing teeth, they are meant to look and function like natural teeth. Unlike dental implants or bridges, which are more or less permanently affixed to the bone, dentures are prosthetic teeth attached to a supporting structure, therefore they can be removed at night. The versatility of dentures means they can be made to fit around any number of remaining healthy teeth. People who have lost all their teeth can get a full set of dentures.

Although dentures are the most affordable option when it comes to replacing a missing tooth, they are also the least convenient to live with. Wearers must be careful about what they eat as certain foods will dislodge or damage dentures.

Although you can clean your teeth as normal while wearing a partial denture, you’ll still have to remove it sometimes for special cleaning. Full dentures, on the other hand, often must be removed and left in a cleaning solution overnight. Because of the way our mouths change over time (especially when teeth are missing), dentures may only last for a few years before coming loose. If they are not replaced, they can become uncomfortable and cause mouth sores. There is also a chance of them slipping when laughing or in mid-conversation.

At Dental Land, we work with our patients on fitting your denture perfectly for a natural looking feel that complements your facial structure. Many of our patients have expressed that apart from improved their dental health, dentures help them regain control of their speech, make them feel more confident and happy, and allows them to enjoy eating the foods they love. Some even report feeling younger and becoming more socially active.

Removable complete dentures and partial dentures

With the emergence and advances with implant and osseointegration, the area of Removable Prosthodontics is often considered, ‘The lost stepchild of Restorative Dentistry’. That is unfortunate.  More than ever, as professionals, we must consider all the tools available and offer alternative dental treatments to those patients who either do not wish, cannot afford or because of medical reasons cannot receive implant treatment.

In those situations where dentures and partial dentures are the best a solution for a patient, it is imperative to recognize how important those dentures are to that patient.  They must be fabricated with the utmost care and accuracy.

One of the great pleasures of people who have lost their teeth is eating, and a proper prosthesis that will reinstate their masticatory function and appearance is crucial.  With proper construction of a denture or partial, patients will be able to sustain a varied and balanced diet because they will no longer instinctively avoid food that causes them pain when chewing.

Dental Land makes every effort to satisfy those patients who find themselves for whatever reason, needing a removable appliance. Your Dental Land prosthesis will satisfy your needs and objectives. Special care will be taken to both the construction and adjustment phase of this longstanding conventional prosthodontic care.

How to care for your dentures

Rinse your dentures with cold water after every meal.  You may wash them with mild soap and water.  Never use bleach, as it will ruin the natural look of your denture.  When you are not wearing them keep them moist to prevent them from losing their shape and form. Never put them in hot water or on a hot place.
